Polarised light micrograph of a section of the mature wood of Milicia excelsa (syn Chlorophora excelsa), known as African teak, iroko, or mvule. It is a dioecious deciduous hardwood which is on the ICUN list of endangered species due to commercial exploitation. Longitudinally sectioned multiseriate rays are seen running vertically with intercellular canals (white/pink round profiles) at their margins. Magnification: x68 at 10cm wide.
