The origins of the Alegre Confraternity of the Burial of the Sardine could go back to the reign of Carlos III, because according to the popular tradition to the Madrid of the time arrived a game of rotten fish to the markets, causing the consequent stench in all the city. To address this problem, the king issued an edict ordering the burial of said fish on the banks of the Manzanares River. The exact place of the burial is not specified for sure, but surely it was close to the current Fuente de los Pajaritos, in the Casa de Campo, an enclave where every year of the last decades the Brotherhood carries out the end of the Burial of the Sardine of Madrid and, as a consequence, of the Carnival itself. The tour begins in San Antonio de la Florida and the brotherhood, accompanied by Gigantes y Cabezudos, and will make a tour through the streets of the city to this enclave of the Casa de Campo.
