He yielded all hecould, but though failing to agree, he yet promised to keep quietin the future, if his enemies would also cease. Fearing at lastthat he would be seized and taken to Rome and burned, by thehelp of friends, like Paul at Damascus, he escaped at night by agate. He arrived safely at Wittenberg, October 31.
