From one seed a vine bore thirty-six beans, in shape resembling a mammoth spine cucumber. Grown on an overhead trellis, sliced and cooked as eggplant, it is delicious and promises to be a valuable acquisition to our list of everyday vegetables. Charles Lohrman, of the Lohrman Seed Co., Detroit, Mich., observed that while the counter trade exceeded all precedent, he looks for a duplication next year, for the reason that while there were many disappointed war gar- deners, there will be a new crop of workers, especially if the authorities encourage the scheme, as was the case this year.
