Cup with spout ORIGIN Eastern Iran or Transoxiana, X century MEDIUM Clay body, engobes and decoration under the showcase The cup has a pinkish-purple engobe on which is painted the central motif consisting of a large bird that dominates the inner surface of the object. The animal is decorated with large white backgrounds, bordered by thin black lines and decorated, inside, by curvilinear patterns of black color. The two unfolded wings are adorned with a dense decoration traced in black on an olive green background. The head is characterized by a large black eye. Beak and paws are painted in tomato red. The background is decorated with patterns in black, dotted in white and red. Near the edge runs a white frame with pseudo-Cufic characters in black. A distinctive element of the cup is the large spout: in all probability the container was used to mix drinks.
