Battle of Dreux (19 December 1562). The Catholics, led by Constable Anne de Montmorency, Francis (Duke of Guise) and Marshal Jacques d'Albon de Saint-André, defeated the Huguenots commanded by Louis I of Bourbon (Prince de Condé) and Admiral Gaspard II de Coligny. It was the first battle during the French Wars of Religion. In the foreground, Marshal Jacques d'Albon de Saint-André, on the Catholic side, is shot dead. Engraving.
