Tiles from the mausoleum of the Buyan Kuli Chan. These tiles come from the mausoleum of the 1358 murdered King's Buyan Kuli Khan. He was the 25th successor to the Jingis Khan (1155/62 / 67-1227) and prevailed about a part of the huge empire of Mongols. His tomb is in Buchara, a city in today's Uzbekistan, and was covered inside the outside with tiles. The field with the spiral tendril comes from the exterior facade. The ornament is not painted here, but cut into the sound in a complex technology as a relief. Gift of Alfred Beit, London
