Hipkins, druggist at Blanchard, isj^^^ a son of Joshua and Elizabeth (Loup) The it Hipkins, natives of Pennsylvania. ^^. father was born March 14, 1811, was a drug-gist by occupation, and died in 1867, in Gilboa,Ohio. The subject of this sketch was born at Gilboa, Put-nam Co., Ohio, April r4, 185 i, and remained at homeuntil 16 years of age, when he became a drug 187 I he entered the pharmacy institution at 45,Bleeker Street, Utica, where he remained until to Gilboa, he entered the drug establish-ment of McClure & Mathias. Mr. Mc Clure subse-quently bought his partners interest, and after a timehe sold to Harmans & Son. A short time after thislast change, Mr. Hipkins went to Bairdstown, WoodCounty, and bought a stock of drugs of Cattor two years there, he sold to one Getman, andcame to Michigan. He clerked for George Finch fora while, and in 1881 came to Blanchard, where hehas since conducted a profitable business. Nov. 7, 1877, he was joined in wedlock with MissAnna Phillips, daughter of Miles and Sarah (Redson)Phillips. She was born Jan. 7, 1855
