Jupiter. At left is false-colour infrared image of haze particles in Jupiter's atmosphere. The great Red Spot (GRS), a large storm system, is bright white. At left is a false-colour mid-infrared image, which is sensitive to tropospheric temperatures and cloud thickness near the condensation level of ammonia gas. the GRS is a cool dark red with thick cloud cover. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. It has a diameter of around 140,000 kilometres, more than ten times that of Earth. It is a gas giant and is mostly hydrogen and helium. Images taken on 18th May 2017 from Maunakea, Hawaii, USA. Left by the Gemini North Telescope's Near-Infrared Imager (NIRI). Right by the Cooled Mid-Infrared Camera and Spectrometer (COMICS) of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan's Subaru Telescope.
