The electric locomotive shown in the accompanyingillustration was designed by the Link Belt MachineryCompaq, of Chicago, for coal mining work. Themachine is four-wheeled and is operated by a singlemotor. It is run at eight miles an hour, pulling trainsof from 30 to 40 loaded bank cars. It weighs 10 tonsand is built in accordance with the best engineeringprinciples. The drivers are provided with soft steel. FIG.
