An early portrait of Ernest Barry, British rower & sculling champion --- Ernest James Barry (1882 – 1968) was also a Thames Waterman who achieved the honour of becoming five times Sculling World Champion and winner of the Doggett's Coat and Badge Race in 1903. In the in the early 1920s he was a publican, running the Fox Inn in Church Street Twickenham. He died in July 1968 at Bonser Road, Cross Deep, Twickenham aged 86.
