Thepublic did not seem to be waiting with bated breath when thismaiden effort made its appearance, and, for the lack of patronagethe paper, after passing through the hands of several personswho thought a newspaper was a gold mine, died a naturaldeath for the want of breath in 1861. It was an unequalstruggle for seven long, weary years. John W. Pritchard, a Pittsburgh printer, came here someyears afterward and believing that conditions were favorable, heissued, on June iSth, 1870, the first number of the Paragon. Itwas a weekly paper and started off well, but circumstancessoon afterward compelled its suspensi
