The18th century fishing village of Old Stavanger in Norway comprising 173 mainly white wooden buildings Old Stavanger or Gamie Stavanger was the brainchild of Einar Heden, a Norwegian architect who fought to have this area of Stavanger conserved when so many old wooden buildings were being destroyed. The 18th century fishing village is now a popular tourist area having been beautifully restored and maintained The area, also known as Straen, is the largest wooden house settlement in Northern Europe.
