Easily the most awe-inspiring prehistoric site in Scotland, the Ring of Brodgar (also known as Brogar) lies on a promontory between two lochs. The stone circle is quite complete, and one of the biggest in stones are set within a circular ditch up to 3m deep and 9m across that was hewn out of the solid bedrock by the prehistoric constructors.
