Among his leading works we may mention: The "Vege- • table Garden," a work of classic im- portance, of which three editions in French have already been published and which gives an account of the origin, character and cultivation of the leading kinds and varieties of vege- tables. The second English trans- lation of that work has just been issued. The "Best Wheats," a handsome book on the best varieties of wheats for Europe, with 50 chromo- lithographic plates, probably the only Teally complete work written exclusively •on the subject. "Les Plantes de Grande Culture," devoted to farm plants, cereals, roots, grasses, forage and economic plants of all kinds. He also revised and completed the latest editions of the "Fleurs de Pleine Ferre," a fine book giving the description and cultivation of the leading annuals, perennials, bul- lous rooted flowers and foliage plants suitable for the open ground, with a general treatise on orna- mental gardening, etc. Besides the abovi,' standard works, he wrote a great many pamphlets and treatises on agricultural or horticultural matters, among which are: "Best Wheat to Cul- tivate" ; "Methodical and Synonymous Catalogue of All the ; compos- ing his private collection; "Experience of Growth of the Different Wheats"; &
