N. C. Mitchel, a good authority on bees, says: Werecommend that the hives should be set on low standsnear the ground. The benefit to be derived from this planis, that weak or fatigued bees, if it should happen to bewindy, are likely to miss the stand and fall on the ground, and, as they can crawl when they are unable to fly, theymake their way to the stand and enter the hive and aresaved ; while if the hive had been some one or two feet from the ground, theywould undoubtedly perish.
