He received his earlyeducation in the common schools of Woburn,attending the winter terms until he was abouttwenty years old. He worked with his fatheron the homestead until the latter died in 1847,when by inheritance he received a hundredacres of the land, the remaining forty acresgoing to his sister Phebe. When she died healso had her share. He was engaged to thetime of his death in general farming andmarket gardening and made his business prof-itable. He also bought wood lots and soldtimber and wood.
