AMMONIA WATER SUPPLYI CONDENSER C 882. REFRIGERATION. Ammonia process. The simple routineof the process of refrigeration by the circulation of ammonia. It con-sists of three principalparts : A, an evapora-tor, or, as sometimescalled, a congealer, inwhich the volatile liquidis vaporized. B, a com-bined suction and com-pressor pump, whichsucks or, properly speak-ing, aspirates the gasor vapor from the evaporator as fast as formed. C, a liquefier or, ascommonly called, condenser, into which the gas is discharged by thecompressor pump, and under the combined action of the pump pressureand cold condenser the vapor is here reconverted into a liquid, to be re-turned to and again used in the 883. MODEL COLD-STORAGE HOUSE. The lettering onthe cut shows the principal features of construction. The ice should rest on wooden slats laid in a galvanizediron pan a little larger than the pile of ice, with drip pipes and siphons to carry offthe water. At the entrance to the store-room there must be a vestibule, either in-side or outside, as space or circumstancesmay direct. The walls should be thickand the door very heavy. The doors, both inside and outside, should be fittedwith rubber, so as to close perfectly tight, and both doors must never be opened atthe same time. This vestibule should belarge enough to contain a fair wagon loadof goods, so that if you are receiving a load of stuff, you are not requiredto stop until all is in the vestibule and ready to store. This house onlyneeds filling once a year. The temperature will range from 34° in winterto 36° in summer, and will preserve fruit perfectly from season to seas
