Epicanthic folds on normal child's eyes. View of vertical folds of skin extending from the upper eyelids to the side of the nose, covering the inner corner of the eyes. Epicanthic folds are a normal feature in Orientals, but are rare in other races, except in babies, where they normally disappear as the nose develops. Epicanthic folds are found in certain congenital conditions such as Down's syndrome. The folds can be removed by minor plastic surgery.
