Fumaroles distribute lots of sulfur in the crater of White Island which is is an active volcano off the coast of New Zealand.

White Island or Whakaari is an active andesite stratovolcano 48 km off the coast of New Zealand in the Bay of Plenty. Rising from the 1600 meter deep sea floor around 320 meter above sea level it is the highest volcanic structure in New Zealand just at the northeastern edge of the Taupo Volcanic Zone. After a small eruption on 20 August 2013 White Island was quite active until 11 October 2013. This shot was just in this active phase. Fumaroles like this one distribute lots of sulfur there. White Island oder Whakaari ist ein aktiver Stratovulkan 48 Kilometer vor der Küste der Nordinsel Neuseelands in der Bay of Plenty. Da sich der Vulkan vom Meeresboden rund 1600 Meter unter dem Wasserspiegel bis 321 Meter über dem Wasserspiegel erhebt, ist White Island der höchste Vulkan Neuseelands im äußersten Nordosten der Taupo Vulkan-Zone. Nach einem kleinen Ausbruch am 20. August 2013 entstand dieses Bild mitten in einer recht aktiven Phase, die am 11. Oktober 2013 verteilen dort jede Menge Schwefel in der Landschaft.
