So the prisoner was liberated, but nothing the General or Doctor could dowould prevail upon her to go through the Asylum. The poor Doctor looked for a moment appealingly at General Ross; but onlyfor a moment—the twinkle of merriment in his eye, and his ill-concealed effortsto control his laughter were wholly reassuring.
