Israel has planned the construction of a by-pass road on the south of Nablus to serve the four Jewish Israeli settlements of Yitzhar, Itamar, Har Brakha and Elon Moreh, which are home to a combined 7,132 settlers. Israeli authorities have defended the project as a way to ease traffic in the area and avoid frictions between Israeli settlers and Palestinians. The bypass will be built on dozens of hectares of land belonging to at least four villages to the south of Nablus - Huwwara, Burin, Beita and Odala. Palestinians oppose the project which they see as a tool to strengthen the presence of Jewish Israeli settlements, which are deemed illegal in international law, and to seize more land from Palestinians. With the continuous expansion of settlements, checkpoints, bypass roads, and military zones in the West Bank, Palestinians’ land keeps shrinking and being fragmented
