The original Statue of Christ the Redeemer at the Andes mountainous border of Argentina and Chile (as it was before being recast in 1916) commemorating the peace settlement of 1902 between the two countries.( Original unveiled 1904). The inscription (in Spanish) is translated as "Sooner shall these mountains crumble into dust than Chileans and Argentinians break the peace which at the feet of Christ, the Redeemer, they have sworn to maintain."
