Tenontosaurus dinosaur. Artwork of a Tenontosaurus (\sinew reptile\") dinosaur. Tenontosaurus was a medium-sized dinosaur, being up to metres in length & weighing up to a tonne. It was one of the largest members of the Hypsilophodontid family. It used its powerful jaw muscles & broad, closely- fitting teeth to chew plants. It could walk on four legs, but ran on its two rear limbs using its heavy tail to counter-balance its forward-leaning body. It used its size to deter small predators and its speed to escape large ones. Tenontosaurus gets its name from the sheath of tendons that sti- ffened its tail. It lived about 110 million years ago during the Cretaceous period in North America."
