Partial view of the picturesque village of Kastellorizo (or "Meghisti") island, Dodecanese, Greece. In the background the southern Turkish is one of the most beautiful Greek islands. It is also one of the smallest and it's definitely the most remote. It belongs to Dodekanese (or "Dodekanisos", it means "12 islands") and it is located 72 miles east of Rhodes island, while its distance from the south Turkish coast and the town of Kas is only 1,25 miles. It has only one but really beautiful and colorful village with very interesting architecture. Its current population is around 400 people, while in its heyday (first decades of the 20th century) its population reached around inhabitants. Kastellorizo was the shooting location for the Italian film "Mediterraneo" that won the Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Foreign Language Film in 1991.
