Both his grandfathers were soldiers inthe American Revolution, and he now says he desires no betterblood in his veins than that which resisted the oppressions andusurpations of the English King and Parliamenr and gave freedomto the thirteen colonies of North America. Aside from the publicschools of the rural district in which his father lived he had the ad-vantage of an academy in the village of Athens. At this schoolyoung Minier worked for his board and tuition, nights, morningsand Saturdays, at a hotel kept by an old lady. His younger brother,the Hon. T. L. Minier, ex-Senator, of Elmira, N.
