Taichung Park Lake Twin Pavilions standing and reflecting in the middle of the park's artificial lake, North District, Taichung City, Taiwan
On October 24, 1908 (the 41th year of the Era Meiji), construction of the Western Railway Line was completed and Taichung Park was selected to host the opening ceremony. A pavilion was built over the pond to serve as a rest area for Japanese Prince Kanin-no-miya Kotohito, who was observing the ceremony. Its foundation pillars were constructed with brick, topped with a wooden base. The unique roof features a design of steep angles descending from the top and tapering off to an incline of curving contours upon reaching the eaves. Situated amidst green trees, the ivory-white pavilion, sitting upon the Sun-Moon Pond, has become a Taichung landmark. In 1999, Taichung City Government designated it a City Historic Site and named it "Lake Heart Pavilion".
