Trolleybus, New Street, Wednesfield, 8675. Wolverhampton Corporation Transport's first trolleybus (No. 1) - a Tilling-Stevens -

Trolleybus, New Street, Wednesfield, 8675. Wolverhampton Corporation Transport's first trolleybus (No. 1) - a Tilling-Stevens - on the New Street, Wednesfield part of the first inaugurated route, during the same year that the converted tramway officially opened on October 29, 1923. It was only able to carry single decker buses because of the difficulties posed by the railway bridge at the lower end of Broad Street, Wolverhampton. Note the connection rods on the roof that make contact with the overhead lines (top of photograph). The Wolverhampton coat of arms can be seen on the back of the trolleybus. The image clearly shows the skill required to successfully manoeuvre the trolleybus around the motorbus (No. 10) next to it. It also shows the extent to which the roof connecting rods stretched. The trolleybus driver and conductors stand to the right of the trolleybus. Further to the right is the old tram terminus, which continued to be used by the trolleybuses until the widening of the Rookery Street canal bridge. On the left are the premises of John Griffiths, iron merchants. To the extreme left stands a postman. Trolley buses, Public transport, Motor vehicle industry, Photographs
