Gibraltar - 1st November 2015 - Large parts of the city centre and the main accesses to the town area where today underwater after some 50 minutes of intense rain fell over the Rock of Gibraltar. Emergency services including technical services and highways and the Gibraltar Defence Police were called upon to assist in the controls of traffic diversions, as well as in clearing flooded area. Over 36mm of rain is reported to have falled in just 30 minutes cutting of some key road junctures after the main drainage system was unable to cope with the down pour. Further rain is expected later this evening until at least 2100hrs. Damage to property in the city centre is reported to be in the tens of thousands after numerous shops were flooded by the down pour. All main emergency services remain on standby as the severe weather warning continues.
