. The Street railway journal . hdouble chains are employed as the means of transport. Thesechains are kept parallel at a required distance to allow bucketswith a capacity of 100 lbs. to freely swing on pins placed , the space between buckets being partly filled by the cross-stay just referred to. Each chain has double links, formed offlat Siemens-Martin steel bars, having tube distance piecesfor the chain pins at 12-in. pitch, these being shouldered downat each end, so that the outside links are not jammed against theinner ones when the pins are riveted over. These pins are alsoreduced at ends, so that the riveting makes them solid with theoutside links, while the bushes or distance pieces are tight inthe inner ones, thus ensuring a broad wearing surface for thejoint pins. To make the friction as low as possible, rollers areintroduced into each link, and an improvement has been affectedby running these on pins in the body of the link instead of asformerly putting them on the joint pins. That is, a new pin. SECTION OF MERSEY RAILWAY POCRUSHER, HOPPERS, WEIGHING MA( and has for its object the supplying of electricity to the sur-rounding district. The coal is brought into the yard in railwaytrucks of 10 tons capacity, and is of the quality known aswashed nuts. It is so carried that the railway car can beemptied in a few minutes by dropping the doors. From thispoint the machinery comes into play. A hopper capable ofholding one truck load is placed with the top level with the rails, and on the fuel being dumped therein, an attendant operates avalve, which on once being fixed acts as a constant regulator tothe conveyor, so long as there is no variation in the class ofcoal. A subtruded filler is found next to the valve, and beingof unusual pattern, merits description. It consists of two platesabout 3-ft. diameter, mounted on a 3-in. shaft, receiving motionfrom the conveyor chains, and having bolted to the peripheriesa number of division plates of angular section,
