He is theeditor of the first volume of University of MichiganStudies, entitled Roman Historical Sources andInstitutions (1904), to which he contributed thefirst number. THOMAS BENTON COOLEY was bornat Ann Arbor, Michigan, June 23, 1871, son ofThomas Mclntyre and Mary Elizabeth (Horton)Cooley. After receiving his preparatory educationin the public schools and High School of Ann Arborhe entered the University and was graduated Bach-. work in Organic and Physiological 1898 to 1900 he was assistant in Hygiene atthe University. The year 1900-1901 he spent inGermany studying the diseases of children. Onreturning to this country he became resident phy-sician at the South Department of the Boston CityHospital. In 1903 he was appointed Assistant Pro-fessor of Hygiene, in charge of the Pasteur Institute,at the University of Michigan, and held this positiontill 1905, when he resigned it to take up the prac-tice of medicine in Detroit, his specialty being thediseases of children.
