St Leonard’s Church is on the site of a 12th century church, demolished during the Victorian period. The present church from 1851 is located on the edge of Charlecote Park, Wellesbourne, near Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England. Charlecote Park was owned by Sir Thomas Lucy, an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1571 and 1585, but is best known for his links to William Shakespeare. As a Protestant activist he came into conflict with Shakespeare's Catholic relatives, and there are stories that the young Shakespeare himself had clashes with him.

St Leonard’s Church is on the site of an earlier 12th century church, demolished during the Victorian period. The present church is entirely Victorian dating from 1851 on the edge of Charlecote Park, Wellesbourne, near Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England. Charlecote Park was owned by Sir Thomas Lucy (1532-1600), an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1571 and 1585, but is best known for his links to William Shakespeare. As a Protestant activist he came into conflict with Shakespeare's Catholic relatives, and there are stories that the young Shakespeare himself had clashes with him. He was a loyal supporter of Queen Elizabeth and an ardent Protestant.
