Homo antecessor and Turkana Boy skulls. Fossil skulls of two extinct hominin species that form part of the human evolutionary tree. The fragments at left are part of a Homo antecessor skull. The cast at right is of the skull of fossil KNM-WT 15000, a nearly complete fossil skeleton that is called Turkana Boy (Nariokotome Boy). Turkana Boy is variously classified as Homo erectus or Homo ergaster. It was found in 1984 in Kenya, and is around million years old. H. antecessor lived between and million years ago, with fossils found in 1994 and 1995 at the Gran Dolina site, in the Atapuerca foothills of northern Spain.
