Machines and implements of all kinds, whether mills,ploughs, &c, that are adapted to execute a variety of differentoperations, are deserving of special encomagement, as beingso particularly adapted to the wants of the small farmer, who,without them, is working at great disadvantage with hisneighbours, whose operations are on a much larger extent ofground. EA>*SOME S IIOE PLOUGH. Is for the purpose of hoeing up weeds, and stirring andloosening the soil between the rows of plants. It may be used with three tri-angular hoes, each cutting 13^ inches wide, extending over3 feet 6 inches, or contracted to a smaller width ; or the twohind hoes may be substituted by two curved knives, as shownin fig. 9, for cutting the weeds up on the sides of ridges. Itis a very simple implement, capable of doing a great deal ofwork, and may be adapted to a variety of purposes. MOULDING PLOUGHS, OB DOUBLE TOMS. These are made with two mould-boards, one on either side,and are used for earthing up plants sown upon the ridge; themould is turned up lightly on the right and left sides, as theplough passes along between the rows. It is also frequentlyused for opening water-furrows between the breadths ofploughed land. When the mould-boards are removed, it maybe applied as a broad-share plough for cleaning land, or asa light description of subsoil. They are manufactured byMessrs. Ea
