Colorized engraving showing the design of Tycho Brahe's Uraniborg palace-observatory and gardens. Uraniborg ("The Castle of Urania") was an astronomical observatory built circa 1576 on Hven, an island then part of Denmark. This illustration shows Tycho's plan of the gardens, with the main building at center, and other structures within the outer walls. The design was precisely oriented to the cardinal points of the compass.
