A very small andcurious Order, differ-ing from Composites innothing but their albu-men, pendulous ovaile, and half-distinct anthers, and from Teazehvorts in their filamentsbeing monadelphous and their anthers partly connate. They may therefore be con-sidered to hold a middle station between those two Orders. Such species as are kno\\Ti mhabit South America, rarely occurring in the tropicaldistricts, but more plentiful in South Chile. They are, however, not common are described as ascending from the sea coast to considerable altitudes on theAndes.
