Dettifoss waterfall in Vatnajökull National Park in Northeast Iceland is currently flowing at 500 cubic metres per second, compared to a usual rate of 193 m3/sec. Already reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe, Dettifoss is situated on the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river, which flows from the Vatnajökull glacier. High flow is thought to be attributed to geothermal activity from one of three volcanoes which lie under the glacier. A further 6 volcanoes in Iceland are at high risk of eruption.
