With fir needles on its back and a shaft of sunlight on the water, a Northern red-legged frog floats, spread-eagled, in a pond, holding a sedge.

The Northern red-legged frog is a blue-listed species (of special concern) in British Columbia and is officially listed as at-risk in Canada. As of 2017, its population was considered to be healthy on the Gulf Islands, where this photograph was taken.
