The machine is double, and both sides. HEAVY AND SHEARING MACHINE. may be employed in punching or shearing, according to thetool with which it is fitted. The general advantage of thedouble machine, however, is that one side may always be readyfor punching and the other side for shearing. Each side isentirely independent, and may be operated while the oppositeside is at rest. 1 he machine is driven by a belt through powerful gearingturning steel cam shafts, and the latter may be turned by hand-gearing at the front of the machine to facilitate setting the it is preferred to make the machine independent of abelt, it is provided with a double-acting steam engine attacheddirectly to it and designed for this special purpose. The slidesare counterbalanced and the jaws are provided with convenientdevices for the reception of the tools, punches, shearing belts,etc. The stripper is of convenient form and can be quicklyremoved.
