Mr. Kyle was a tobaccomanufacturer at Leaksville, N. C, where hedied in 1836. The subject of this sketch, from his early youth,was reared by his stepfather. Col. Joseph Kyle, aprominent business man at Columbus, Ga. Earlyin 1861 he joined the Thirty-first Alabama Infantryas first lieutenant, and at the organization of theregiment was made quartermaster. His healthfailing him, he was some time thereafter appointedto the local quartermasters service, and assigned.
