A campaign has been started to se- cure a good attendance from Ehode Is- land at the convention of the S. A. F. at New York. The Budlong Eose Co. is sending large shipments of roses to the Boston and New York markets daily. Harry Swanson, of Swanson Bros., was a member of Battery A, which mobilized last week. The Hoxsie Greenhouses have com- pleted two new greenhouses. Mr. Bour- gaige is on a visit to relatives on the Isle of Gruernsey. V, J. Berarducci is spending the sum- mer at his cottage at Highland beach. Alfonso Lefazia, of Thornton, has opened a store on Atwells avenue. W, H. M. NEWPORT, R. I. Members of the Newport Garden Club last week held their first business meeting in the new club house on Belle- vue avenue. The schedule of the club's summer lectures has been announced. Usually these have been free, but this year it has been decided to make a charge of $1, the proceeds to be do- nated to the Eed Cross. Andrew S. Meikle has been appointed by Mayor Burdick a member of the board of park commissioners, for the term expiring in 1922. William J. Gardnear, of New York, is here for the rest of the summer season, associated with Wadley & Smythe. The floral decorations for the recent Red Cross concert at the Casino theater were by Wadley & Smythe. Patrick F. Eeynolds reports an un- usuallv busy season in outdoor work. W. H. M.
