Henry Somerset, 8th Duke of Beaufort, British peer, soldier and politician, c1890. A famous sportsman, Somerset (1824-1899) was editor of the Badminton Library series of books on sporting subjects. The family seat of the Dukes of Beaufort is Badminton House, Gloucestershire, venue of the famous Badminton horse trials equestrian lithograph from The Modern Portrait Gallery, Cassell, Petter and Galpin, London, Paris and New York, c1890.
