Ethanoic acid (or acetic acid, CH3COOH) partially frozen in a reagent bottle. It is a corrosive, colourless liquid that gives vinegar its characteristic odour and flavour. It is a weak organic acid used in chemical laboratories and extensively in industry. It is used to manufacture numerous intermediary compounds, dyes, plastics and is also used as a food additive (E620).
