Testosterone bound to receptor. Molecular model of a molecule of the male sex hormone testosterone (ball-and-stick primary structure) bound to a human androgen receptor (secondary structure). Testosterone is the main human androgen, the class of steroid hormones responsible for the development of the male reproductive organs and secondary sexual characteristics. Binding of testosterone to the androgen receptor switches on genes that code for these characteristics.
