The wood and water that we had taken in at IManilla being confumed, we fought for an oppor- tunity of recruiting cur flore, before attempdng any new cnterprife. The weadier clearing up on the S/th of July, we were enabled to explore a large bay, in which we anchored: it offered to us a fife retreat from (lorms, and an eafy mode of procuring die fupplies of which we pLOod in need. This bay is on the 1 artarian coaft, in 51" 29'north latitude, and 139'' 4 i''longitude. We gave it die name of Bale dc Cajirks, TliC country is very mountainous, and fo cover- ed.
