Louis Favre (1826-1879). 1867 illustration of the Swiss engineer Louis Favre. Favre is best known for designing and supervising the building of the Gotthard Rail Tunnel in Switzerland. This construction took place between 1871 and 1881, with Favre dying of a heart attack in the tunnel while inspecting the work done.
