Mazatlan is a most important mercantile centre, but there are other citiesthat follow it in close competition. There are many important importing andexporting establishments. It is themost progressive city on the west coastand has taken on the appearance of abusy American port town. The people are well educated, cul-tured and refined. The educationalsystem has every facility for mentalequipment. The principal newspaper is ElDiario del Pacifico. One is impressed with the beau-tiful approach to this port, the flank-ing mountains and the blue Pacific waters making a contrast with the tropicalpalms and ferns ashore.
