COAGULASE TEST


Photo essay at the hospital of la Croix Saint-Simon, Paris, France. Laboratory. A coagulase test is undertaken to identify the golden staph (Staphylococcus aureus). The coagulase is a specific enzyme of the golden staph, catalyzing the coagulation of the blood (conversion of fibrinogen into fibrin). The reactive agent containing fibrinogen is put in contact with the bacterium to be identified ; in case of agglutination, the bacterium is called 'positive coagulase' it is a golden staph.
