Tongue cancer. Light micrograph of a section through an adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) in a tongue. This is a rare slow-growing malignant (cancerous) tumour that arises within glands. It is most common in the head and neck. Although it is slow-growing it often spreads (metastasises). Treatment is with surgical excision where possible, often accompanied by radiotherapy. Magnification: x60 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
