A group of refugees sit around a fire whilst a man washes in the wasteland around a set of disused warehouses behind the bus station in central Belgrade. Behind the bus station in the centre of Belgrade sits a set of abandoned warehouses that host up to 1500 refugees and migrants. With the Balkan route effectively closed, with the exception of a few women and children, the demographic of refugees stranded in Serbia is becoming increasingly dominated by young males. The warehouses have provided a refuge for those staying there but at a cost to their health. To stay warm, many fire are burning throughout the day creating a toxic atmosphere inside the buildings. There are restrictions on the times, types and amounts of aid that can be distributed throughout the city creating problems for the NGO's trying to work there. A major issue encountered by MSF (Medecins sans Frontieres) is recurrent infection of scabies due to people needing to huddle together for warmth.
